SFERRA

SFERRA Fine Linens have enlivened society homes, graced the tables at White House state dinners, and been selected for use in the sleeping quarters of the Vatican’s private plane. A company rich in a history rooted in Italy, SFERRA appeals to consumers who aspire to all levels of luxury by offering premier linen collections with thread counts ranging from 200 to 1,020 - each of which possess SFERRA’s signature style.

The SFERRA Story

SFERRA began in Italy as a purveyor of fine Italian-made lace in 1891. The company’s industrious founder, Gennaro Sferra left Italy for business travel in the United States at the turn-of-the-century in hopes of attracting a market for his intricate Venetian lace cuffs and collars. He found his clientele in the well-heeled guests who frequented the grand seaside resorts that once dotted the East Coast from Maine to Palm Beach, and traveled regularly up and down the coast to sell his exquisite goods.

Recognizing a growing demand for delicate hand embroideries, Gennaro expanded SFERRA production by opening Factory 5007 San Severo in 1905, located in the shadow of the Rialto Bridge in Venice. Then, twice yearly, Gennaro returned to his homeland by steamer, creating new collections of the most luxurious linen, embroidery and handmade lace for his burgeoning affluent American customer base. Finally, in 1912, Gennaro moved his company and his family to the United States.

A generation later, in the 1940s and 1950s, Gennaro’s two sons, Enrico and Albert, expanded their father’s collection to include the most luxurious European linens of the day—Ireland's renowned double damask, France's refined Alençon Laces, and the beautiful embroideries from Belgium and Switzerland. For those in the know, SFERRA became a household name.

BURANO

With the delicacy and beauty of Italy's finest combination of lace making and weaving, Sferra created a limited edition bedding ensemble to help commemorate the masterful traditions that launched SFERRA 115 years ago.

The island of Burano - a quick boat ride from Venice - is world renowned for its Point de Venice lace; the exceptional lace produced there has been meticulously crafted by the women of Burano since the 1400’s, and represents a treasury of Old World artisanship.

The Egyptian cotton 1020 thread count Ivory sheeting, creating graceful detail for a thoroughly luxurious - and wonderfully extravagant - night’s sleep. This exquisite sheet set retails for $15,000.

SFERRA was the proud recipient of a 2005 ASPIRE Product and Design Award from the Home Fashion Products Association, as well as two Textile Industry Awards in 2006 given by home textile trade publication HTT.
